++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ GCA Eagles Basketball Todd O’Neal- Athletic Director/ Head Boys Basketball Coach Dejuan Knight- Head Girls Basketball Coach News We came into this week 7-3 for the season, but we understood the challenges that lied ahead with games at Pearl Cohn High School, Dekalb County High, and Bledsoe County High. All of these programs are 4a and have experienced success on the 4A level. We opened with Pearl Cohn High. Our guys competed like champions. We were down by two at half and three going into the fourth quarter. Their athletes wore us down at the end of the game and we had to foul where they hit 12 of 14 fts at the end which did not help us at all. We lost 83-69. On Saturday we went to Dekalb County High School where the region champion Dekalb team was ready to play. Again, our guys did a tremendous job of defending and working hard on the offensive end of the court to a basic stalemate. The game ended in controversy as we felt the referees missed a few calls at the end of the game and let Dekalb back into it where they hit a couple of shots and won 69-68. The second game on Saturday we faced a very talented Bledsoe County team which won 22 games in 4A basketball last season. They also had a guard that is being recruited by several major Division I programs. We battled Bledsoe the entire game and due to late foul trouble and some turnovers we lost 74-69. Im so proud of our boys team, they are competing with the 4A giants and winning. We have won seven out of twelve quarters against 4A competition. Please keep praying for our team and school as we embark on this journey together. News Our girls team had a great week of basketball and experiences as a team they will never forget. They had the opportunity to play two fantastic 4A programs and they did a great job and played hard throughout both games. Each season is a journey and is different. Our girls team is very, very young and inexperienced but they show the spirit of a true team. There is absolutely no selfishness within the girls team. They play for the love of one another. After the lady Eagles last game I observed our team as they interacted with one another and the fans and what I saw was a team full of servant leaders that loved everyone and affected everyone around them. They all sat together without anyone telling them to do so. They did that because they genuinely like one another. The laughed and talked and ate chili dogs while they grew together as a team. They have figured out one thing, that it’s all about the journey and its not about winning. It is about building relationships and working TOGETHER. They are a GREAT TEAM and I love watching them while they are together. Coach Knight is doing a great job. I am blessed to witness the journey.
